You don’t need to work with a coach because something’s wrong.
You need to work with a coach because you could use another person’s perspective to help you stop going in circles and start to see things clearly in your life.
Ontological coaching is where we do that—together.
Creating clarity in uncertain times.

What is “ontological” coaching?
Ontological coaching isn’t about giving advice. It’s about making visible what you haven’t been able to see yet. The ontological approach differs from most coaching styles in fundamental ways:
- It focuses on a person’s “way of being“, rather than on what they’re doing.
- It aims to change the observer you are, rather than fix problems inside your current way of thinking and perceiving.
- It expands future possibilities, instead of applying new actions to old habits.
What do we actually work on?
Together, we get clear on the things that quietly shape whether you move forward or not:
- The context you’ve been operating in—and how to create a powerful new context for your future
- Your commitments and concerns
- Narratives, interpretations, and moods influencing your choices
- Your relationships with others, your circumstances, and time
- Who you are, right now, and who you want to be—not who you were or think you should be
- Specific shifts that can open up movement.
I won’t hand you a script for your life. But I will help you see clearly enough that you can write your own.
Who is this work for?
It tends to fit people in their 40s to 70s who are:
- Genuinely uncertain about how to move forward
- Facing career disruption, retirement, loss of purpose, or the challenge of living well in these unpredictable times
- Not just looking for quick fixes
- Ready to look at what’s beneath the surface
What does a coaching arrangement look like?
Once you contact me, we’ll set up a FREE, short, no-pressure “discovery conversation” to explore whether coaching together is the right fit—for you and for me.
If it is the right fit, we design our coaching arrangement together based on what we’ve discovered. The frequency and cadence of our conversations , as well as the length of our engagement, will depend on your situation and needs.
If it’s not the right fit, you and I will know that too—and that’s a useful outcome in itself.

Want to explore what’s possible for you?
A short conversation is all it takes to get started.
Send me a note with a bit about what’s going on for you: what feels stuck, uncertain, or unsure right now. I read every message myself and will respond within 2 to 3 business days.
I’ll set up a free discovery call with you if coaching could be appropriate in your situation. We’ll have a short, virtual conversation to see if working together makes sense. NO PRESSURE.
FAQs
Is the first conversation really free?
Yes. Its only purpose is to figure out, together, whether coaching together is the right fit.
Do I need to know exactly what I want help with before we talk?
No. Most people start with a feeling, rather than a clear ask. That’s a fine place to begin. You don’t have to have it all figured out before we talk. That’s what the first conversation is for.
Do you only work with people in your local area?
No. Most often, coaching happens by video call or phone call, so there are few barriers to working together.
